5 - City block, Southeast of First Street & Main
These buildings were located on lots 13 to 24, block 1, Original Town, (survey circa 1937). Meat market is located on next block south but is included here because of the lack
of quality pictures. Return to ListThe building on the left was Asle Ellingson's Cafe and the structure on the right was the first drug store operated by Lyle Balcom. The drug store (Epping Cash Store) was later occupied, by Dr. Moot and Dr. Sorheim.
The fire of July 1912 destroyed the law offices and printing shop (Epping Enterprise) operated by H.B. Wingerd, and the Charles Odell Feed and Grain Store. The Hagen Hotel to the south was spared and is in use today as the Buffalo Inn Cafe and as a private residence. Click on Image for more pictures taken on the day of the fire.
